1. Take the difference between total debits and total credits: $44,200 – $46,000 = $1,800
2. Divide the error by 9: $1,800/9 = $200
3. Locate $200 on the trial balance. Equipment, at $200, appears to be the account with the
slide error. In real life, one would then trace the Equipment amount back to the ledger
account to confirm that the correct amount should have been $2,000, not $200 (hence the
$1,800 slide error).
4. Correct the trial balance.
